My favorite line . . .

  1. I remember my father reading “The Old Man And The Sea” to me (We had a parctice of reading at bedtime.) when I was about 6 yeas old. Its hard to know and say how that story embedded itself in my mind, but the old fisherman’s desperate refusal to give up on that fish and getting it home, even as a skeleton has stayed with me ever since. I don’t know how the tale has influenced my own response to adversity, but probably quite a lot.
